EXPERIENCE DELECTABLE MOMENTS OF DANCE THAT WILL BOTH NOURISH AND STIMULATE AWARENESS OF THE PRACTICES OF FOOD CONSUMPTION AND SUSTAINABILITY.
Activisms is a new season of performance created for the Sustainable Backyard Garden during the Hamilton Gardens Arts Festival. Immersed in the intimate environment of this garden, audience members of all ages will experience delectable moments of dance that will both nourish and stimulate awareness of our practices of food consumption and sustainability. Choreographed by Karen Barbour, these performances from Waikato Contemporary Dance Projects Trust combine site-specific dance, spoken word, costuming, music and gardening with a good measure of community activism. Dancers include Helene Burgstaller, Gabriel Baker and guest artist Geoff Gilson.
Please note that the Sustainable Backyard Garden is a functioning garden and is home to a beehive and chickens. Audience numbers are limited in this garden. Seating will be provided, children are welcome and the garden is wheelchair accessible.
Audience members are asked to gather for the 6pm performances by 5.50pm at the entrance to the theme gardens (or gather before 11am in the Cultivation Garden).
A free workshop/s especially for festival participants will offer an opportunity to experience movement for wellbeing and experience the creative process of the performances. Saturday 18 Feb 11.30am in the Chinosiere Garden.
